Orvieto

Orvieto, one of the most ancient Etruscan towns in Italy was built on a high cliff of tufa, with the stunning and prominent Duomo, strikes the visitor from the very beginning of his tour. It’s really hard to describe Orvieto in few lines! The better way to discover it is wandering the tiny streets and discover its main beauties such as the Duomo (the Cathedral) with its  wonderful facade decorated with mosaics and the amazing frescoes by Luca Signorelli, the Palaces of the Popes, the St. Patrick well, 62 meters deep, the underground town full of pits and caves. A very interesting excursion in the outside the town is the Etruscan necropolis which dates back to the sixth century b.C.

We suggest you: To visit the fascinating “Scarzuola”, not very far from Orvieto, the ideal city built by the architect Tomaso Buzzi upon  a Franciscan monastery.
