Terni

Terni is a quiet town of approximately 110.000 inhabitant, sorrounded by green hills. Its origins date back to roman times, but since those times Terni had changed a lot: today it’s an industrial hub and this is evident even in the architecture of the town. Even if it is considered a modern city, Terni holds the memory of its roman and medioeval past. Below the modern appearance there is a romantic heart beating! Terni is the town of saint Valentine, and every year the celebration called “eventi valentiniani” celebrate the saint.

Walking in the street downtown you’ll observe many 20th. century buildings next to ancient palaces and churches together with roman ruins and we are sure you will find this combination really interesting.  You can start your visit from the modern obelisk “rampa di luce” by the sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, followed by the beautiful church, maybe paleo-christian, “San Salvatore”, whose circular ground plant is really interesting. Then you can reach the city park “La passeggiata” and visit the roman “anfiteatro”. Carrying on walking you will be in the main streets of the town: Corso Tacito, Corso Vecchio, Via Roma and Via Cavour with many interesting old buildings and, among them, Palazzo Spada, attributed to Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane and old churches as san Francesco and the Cathedral.

If you like running and trekking, you can practise it in the urban river park or choose the surroundings. We are sure you’ll enjoy it!

We suggest you to: walk downtown and stop in the bars and deli shops to taste our culinary delights: you won’t regret it!
